The Playoff Picture – Relegation Fight

There have been eight games for each team til this point, and the law of nature dictates that there are some people who are always meant to be at the bottom for our existence to make sense.

At the start of the championship, some of these teams thought they would be eyeing the big boy games but have found themselves in the dogfight and need to stay up or risk playing in the regionals for at least one year.

Note: The relegation playoffs will be over two rounds.

Playoff 1: 9 v 12: Kampani’s Eagles vs Lifeguard Rams

The big boys’ league is quite unforgiving. Chances are very high that the promoted teams almost always get demoted a year later.

The Eagles have been a shining light this year but they find themselves in the unfortunate zone. They have mastered wins against the Impis and the Barbarians on opening weekend, and 6 losses.

They would need to gather the gusto from those two wins to go head-to-head with the Rams in a best-of-two series.

The Lifeguard Rams last had a heartbeat in the Uganda Cup when they shocked all and sundry, making it to the final. They find themselves comatose, and dead last on the table of the Championship with just one win.

The good news is that the win was against the Eagles. One good turn deserves another. When the song is nice, the DJ usually plays it twice. Same story for the protection advocates? Maybe.

Playoff 2: 11 vs 10: Impis vs Warriors

The Impis would give anything to go back to the position they were in last year, at this time. They had 5 wins and three losses after 8 games but now are a shadow of that side.

With one win, one draw, and 6 losses to their name this season, it doesn’t look good for the Makerere-based side. The win came against the Rams on opening weekend and they have since been in free fall.

The Warriors made a comeback after two years of absentia but things have changed a lot since they were last up this side. They managed a draw against the Impis last time out, and their only win has come against new boys, Eagles.
