Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) has officially parted ways with Head Coach Abdallah Mubiru, marking an abrupt end to his tenure just five months into a two-year contract.
The decision, reportedly effective immediately, signals the club’s growing urgency to stabilize its performance in the Uganda Premier League.
Mubiru, who took over the reigns in November 2023 following the exit of Sergio Traguil, was tasked with steering the Kasasiro Boys back to consistent success.
However, despite flashes of promise, his tenure was marred by inconsistency. Under his leadership, KCCA FC managed a modest sixth place on the table with 34 points from 22 matches, securing nine wins, seven draws, and six losses. The team netted 28 goals while conceding 18 in the process.
Across all competitions, Mubiru oversaw 44 games, registering 23 wins, 10 draws and 11 defeats. While these numbers may suggest balance, the club’s standards and expectations were far higher.
The turning point appears to have been a humbling 4-0 defeat to Kitara FC, ironically a team Mubiru had belittled as “small” prior to their clash. The loss not only dented KCCA’s momentum but also amplified growing concerns over his leadership.
In response, the club has appointed second assistant Jackson Kaddu Magera as interim head coach until the end of the season. Magera is set to begin his temporary role on Saturday, April 12 when KCCA FC hosts BUL FC at the MTN Philip Omondi Stadium.
For Mubiru, a respected figure in Ugandan football, this chapter ends in disappointment. For KCCA, the move signals a critical juncture as they aim to finish the season on a stronger note and perhaps rediscover the identity that once made them giants of Ugandan football.
