One good turn deserves another. Uganda rugby now turns her attention to the West for Tooro 7s, the fourth stop on the National Sevens calendar.

This will be the second edition of the Tooro 7s after a successful one-day expedition in 2022.

2023 already promises to be bigger with the expansion into a second day. The teams have been expanded from 12 to 16, including the women’s competition.

Can the Pirates bounce back?

The table leaders, Stanbic Black Pirates, will hope to steady the ship after a murky sail at the Rujumba 7s.

The Pirates will look to avoid the 2022 result – where they failed to make it out of the group – and even go all the way to strengthen their hold on the top spot.

They will come up against the Toyota Buffaloes, the first team to inflict defeat on them this year.

In the same group are the invited side, Buddu Bears, and the stubborn Walukuba Barbarians – who beat the Pirates 15-05 in Pool C in 2022.

Rujumba 7s winners, Platinum Credit Heathens, have been placed in Pool A against their 7s bogey sides in Impis and Rhinos.

The Heathens and Rhinos have played each other on 2 of 3 expeditions so far this year, with the last game ending in a 12-all draw in Kitgum. Kabale side, Kigezi Silverbacks, completes the lineup 4 in Pool A.

Reigning Tooro 7s winners, KOBs, have been drawn in Pool B against the Rams, hosts Tooro Lions and the Mustangs.

The KOBs will be looking for their first win on the 2023 calendar and will hope for it to be a Tooro 7s crown defence.

The Rams breathed some life into their campaign this year at Rujumba 7s when they stunned the Impis on day one and eventually made it to the main cup quarters on Day 2.

Reigning National 7s champions, Jinja Hippos, have been drawn in Pool D alongside the Mongers, who dumped them out of the Rujumba 7s main cup contentions in the quarterfinals.

The Warriors, also in Group D, will be welcoming back the services of veteran Gabriel Aredo who has been away from the game for the better part of the last ten months.
