Tanzania’s Twiga Stars capped a flawless campaign with a 1-0 win over Kenya to lift the 2025 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship at the Azam Complex on Saturday.

Clara Luvanga, based in Saudi Arabia, scored the only goal, her second-half shot deflecting past Kenyan goalkeeper Lilian Onyango Awuor after a defensive lapse.

The victory sealed Tanzania’s unbeaten run and sparked celebrations from the home crowd.

Earlier, captain Opa Clement Tukumbuke came close twice, while Kenya’s Violet Nanjala Wanyonyi nearly punished the hosts at the other end.

But the Twiga Stars raised the tempo after the break, pressing Kenya into mistakes they couldn’t recover from.

“We worked hard for this,” Tukumbuke said. “I’m proud of the team. This win gives us belief as we look toward the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.”

Elsewhere, South Sudan pulled off a surprise 3-1 win over Burundi, with goals from Mary Bol, Sumaya Malili Taban and Nyama Nyamam Deng. Rukiya Bizimana scored Burundi’s consolation.

Defending champions Uganda finished third after a mixed showing. The Crested Cranes lost to Tanzania (2-0), Kenya (4-0) and Burundi (1-0), but ended on a high with a 5-0 rout of South Sudan to secure bronze.

Kenya took silver, while all eyes were on Tanzania, the new queens of CECAFA who now head to the continental stage with momentum and belief.
