The Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16 promises thrilling action as four Uganda Premier League (UPL) clubs face off in crucial encounters.

The latest draw, conducted in Mengo on Tuesday, has set the stage for high-stakes battles, with SC Villa, Lugazi FC, Maroons FC, and Police FC all set to compete against each other respectively.

SC Villa, the record nine-time Uganda Cup winners, will visit Lugazi FC in a tricky fixture. The Jogoos advanced to this stage after overcoming Seeta United and Simba, but they now face a determined Lugazi side eager to prove itself.

Meanwhile, Maroons FC and Police FC will clash in another all-UPL affair, making for a competitive fixture between two teams that have shown consistency in the competition.

Defending champions Kitara FC will battle Gaddafi FC as they continue their title defence. With the pressure of retaining the cup, Kitara must navigate a tough opponent known for causing upsets.

KCCA FC and Vipers SC, two of Uganda’s football giants, have been handed home ties.

KCCA, joint record holders with 10 titles, will host Rwenzori Lions, while Vipers will take on Blacks Power at Kitende.

For KCCA and coach Abdallah Mubiru, this match carries extra weight. The club is desperate for silverware, having last won the Uganda Cup in 2018.

With their league title hopes fading, this competition remains their only realistic shot at ending a seven-year trophy drought.

Vipers SC, on the other hand, remains a firm contender after eliminating Tepa and Mbarara City.

With home advantage, they are expected to overcome Blacks Power who put out 2024 First runners-up NEC and advance to the quarterfinals.

The winner of the Uganda Cup earns a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup, adding even more significance to these matches.

With ties scheduled between March 17-21, 2025, teams will be eager to keep their cup dreams alive.
