2026 U17 AFCON CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers | Boys | Group B
- Sudan 0-9 Uganda
Captain Owen Mukisa is quickly becoming the story of Uganda’s U17 campaign, and on Tuesday he wrote another brilliant chapter as the Cubs dismantled Sudan 9–0 in a one-sided CECAFA Zonal Qualifier match at Dire Dawa Stadium in Ethiopia.
Coming off a confident 4–0 win over Burundi, where both Mukisa and Thomas Ogema grabbed braces, the defending champions looked even more explosive this time out.
Sudan, already bruised from a 6–0 loss to Tanzania in their opener, simply couldn’t cope with Uganda’s pace, hunger, and sharpness.
Mukisa led by example once again, striking twice to take his tally to four goals in just two games.
Eze Kombi also bagged a brace, while Ogema, John Brian Owino, Ismail Fahad, Babi Abdushakur, and Arnold Kayemba all chipped in to complete the rout.
The victory pushes Uganda to six points and confirms their place in the semifinals. Their next test comes on Friday against Tanzania, a clash that will decide who tops Group B.
Three teams from the CECAFA region will qualify for the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations, the finalists and the winner of the third-place playoff.
Uganda, Tanzania, and Somalia were the region’s representatives at the previous AFCON in Morocco where the Cubs went on to reach the FIFA U17 World Cup round of 16.
