The new U14 Girls Futsal League kicked off on Tuesday with four games at Old Kampala Futsal Arena.
It was the first-ever girls’ futsal league and a new experience for the teams and it was an entertaining day for the fans.
Azteks Soccer Academy shone above the rest by winning all their games; 4-1 and 2-0 respectively.
The Entebbe-based side outclassed Habonomu in the first game by beating them 4-1.
Shadia Nabirye netted two goals as Angel Ainembabazi and Ziliat Nangobi both scored once. Angela Namyalo scored the only goal for Habonomu.
In the second game, Azteks earned a hard-fought win against Kick It Soccer Academy with a narrow 2-0 scoreline.
Ziliat Nangobi and Latifah Namuwaya scored the two goals for the Azteks to bag the three points over tough Kick It Soccer Academy.
After the game, Azteks Soccer Academy head coach Kidde Yosia praised the character of the girls.
“The girls were at first nervous because of the new experience but later adapted and started controlling the game. We tried playing quick short passing and attacking from the blind side. They really displayed a winning character,” Kidde stated.
He went on to appreciate the organizers for the good work done on match day one.
“Being inaugural edition, the organization has been quite impressive. However, the time we were playing was cut to 15 minutes instead of 20 minutes but it was understandable,” Kidde concluded.
The U14 Girls Futsal League will continue with Matchday Two games on Tuesday 23rd May 2023 at Old Kampala Futsal Arena.
