2025/26 University Football League | Tuesday February 24

  • Bugema University 2-1 Muteesa 1 Royal University

For the first time this season, Muteesa I Royal University tasted defeat. In a lively and fruitful second half of the University Football League clash, Bugema University earned a 2-1 win to end the Group B leaders’ unbeaten run and tighten the race.

At the Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, Bugema showed early intent, creating two clear chances inside the opening half hour but failing to convert. Muteesa stayed organized and absorbed the pressure as the first half ended goalless.

The breakthrough came moments after the restart. In the 48th minute, Sawa Eric curled in a superb free kick that left the goalkeeper with no chance, swinging momentum firmly in Bugema’s favour.

As Muteesa pushed forward, gaps appeared. In the 76th minute, Bugema won a penalty, and Ssenyonga Owen calmly converted to make it 2-0.

Muteesa responded almost immediately. Two minutes later, Brian Rwothomio finished off a pass from Geoffrey Sserugo to reduce the deficit and spark hopes of a comeback. The hosts pressed late on, but Bugema’s defence held firm.

The victory lifts Bugema to second in Group B with eight points from four matches. Muteesa remain top on nine points, but their unbeaten run is over.

Next, IUEA travel to Bulenga to face Africa Renewal University as the Group B contest gathers momentum.
