2025/26 University Football League | Monday March 10
- Busitema University 1-1 Nkumba University
Nkumba University’s hopes of reaching the University Football League quarterfinals took a blow on Monday evening after a 1-1 draw with Busitema University at the Baboon Grounds.
Nkumba started brightly and went ahead in the eighth minute after Mwebe Nasser was brought down in the box.
Ismael Lubega stepped up and calmly converted the penalty to give the visitors an early lead.
The Beach Boys nearly doubled their advantage moments later, but Lubega’s free kick sailed just over the bar.
Kavuma Abbey also had a chance to add to the lead, but his effort from the edge of the area went wide.
Busitema remained organized at the back. Nabaasa intercepted Owino’s dangerous cross meant for Derrick Ntale, while David Besweri made a timely tackle on Nasser as the hosts kept the deficit to one goal before halftime.
Nkumba carried their slim 1-0 lead into the break but missed a golden chance early in the second half.
Ochwo Silver was left unmarked in the box but blasted over the bar from Mwebe’s delivery.
The hosts gradually grew into the game, with Shannon Owino controlling midfield and Musa Nsubuga causing problems for Nkumba’s defense.
Busitema finally found their breakthrough in the 70th minute. Owino split the Nkumba backline with a precise pass to Othieno Jordan, who ran through and calmly finished to level the match.
Nkumba pushed for a winner in the closing stages, throwing more players forward, but Busitema held firm.
The hosts even came close to snatching victory late on when Owino set up Nsubuga, who squared for Ntale Derrick, but his shot flew over the bar.
The draw leaves Nkumba fourth in Group C with four points, while Busitema remain bottom with one.
University Football League action continues on Tuesday with Islamic University in Uganda hosting Kumi University in Mbale.
