2025/26 University Football League
- Makerere University 2-1 Uganda Christian University
Makerere University staged a thrilling comeback to edge Uganda Christian University (UCU) 2-1 in a pulsating University Football League clash at the Makerere University sports grounds on Saturday, 28th February 2026.
The hero of the day was Musa Male, who turned early disappointment into triumph. After missing an early second half penalty, Male redeemed himself with a second half brace, guiding the Enzymes to victory.
Both goals came from precise assists by Emmanuel Ekwong, who was instrumental in Makerere’s attack.
The match began with end to end action, but neither side could break the deadlock in the first half.
UCU threatened through Abiti Harry and Ofoywroth Isaac, only for Makerere keeper Kaziba Timothy and defenders Murungi Kelly and Odita Martin to repel the attacks.
Despite UCU’s early dominance in possession, the first half ended 0-0.
UCU struck early in the second half. Two minutes after the restart, Ofoywroth’s shot forced a rebound that Abiti Harry converted to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute.
Makerere responded quickly, earning a penalty in the 52nd minute, but Male’s effort was brilliantly saved by UCU goalkeeper Mwidu Elton David.
Male’s redemption came in the 60th minute. He met Ekwong’s pinpoint cross to head in the equalizer, sending the home fans into raptures.
The game remained tense, with UCU pressing for a winner and both sides producing fine defending and goalkeeping. Kaziba Timothy stood out, denying Isaac twice in one on one situations.
In stoppage time, Male completed his turnaround. Another perfect cross from Ekwong found Male at the far post, and he calmly slotted home to seal a dramatic 2-1 win.
The victory marks Makerere’s third in four matches, keeping them with nine points, while UCU remains on four after their second defeat.
University Football League action continues on Sunday, 1st March, with Busitema hosting YMCA.
