  • IUIU 3-0 King Ceasor

Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) delivered a commanding performance against newcomers King Ceasor University, running out 3–0 winners in a University Football League clash on Friday at IUIU’s Kayembe Grounds in Mbale.

Star forward Obwana Eric was the standout, scoring twice in the first half, before captain Imam Shafik Kawooya wrapped up the win with a cheeky back-heel goal in the 67th minute.

King Ceasor threatened early, testing IUIU’s defense in the 4th minute, but that was their only real scare.

The hosts quickly took control, with the pace and trickery of Emmanuel Shinkanga down the left wing causing constant problems.

In the 16th minute, Shinkanga’s teasing cross found Faisal Mumali, who nodded it down for Obwana to head home the opener.

Ten minutes later, Shinkanga supplied another pinpoint delivery, with Faraji Mugambe flicking it on for Obwana to double the lead.

By halftime, the debutants appeared nervous and disjointed, relying heavily on goalkeeper Nuwarinda Gribone to keep the score respectable.

King Ceasor made changes after the break and enjoyed brief periods of possession but struggled to penetrate IUIU’s solid defense.

Their resistance finally crumbled when Kawooya stylishly back-heeled in the 67th minute, sealing IUIU’s biggest league victory since 2018.

The win propels IUIU to the top of Group E with three points and a healthy goal difference. The University Football League continues on Saturday with Busitema University hosting Soroti University.
