2025/26 University Football League | Wednesday March 4
- Kabale University 2-0 Bishop Stuart University
Kabale University kept their hopes of reaching the University Football League knockout stage alive after a convincing 2-0 win over Bishop Stuart University on Wednesday evening in Kabale.
The victory leaves Group B wide open heading into the final match day, with Kabale now in contention for the second qualification spot.
Playing at the Kigezi Homeboys Arena, the hosts made a strong start and were rewarded in the 13th minute.
Owanyu Michael broke the deadlock with a powerful finish inside the box after meeting Paddy Tayebwa’s cross.
Kabale continued to press and nearly doubled their lead midway through the half when Kamoga Abdul worked the ball wide for Tayebwa, whose long range strike was comfortably held by Bishop Stuart goalkeeper Muboigi.
The visitors had their chances before the break. Ahumuza Colbert fired a dangerous effort from a tight angle, but Kabale defender Kashegu made an important block.
Moments later, Ahumuza missed the target after Atamba won the ball high and squared it across goal.
Kabale punished those missed chances just before halftime. In the 45th minute, Owanyu turned provider, sending in a cross that Onyango Marvin tapped home to make it 2-0 at the break.
Bishop Stuart returned with more urgency in the second half but struggled to find a way past Kabale’s defence.
Ahumuza Gilbert created space and delivered a cross for Ayebazibwe Victor, whose shot from the edge of the box sailed over the bar.
Atamba later came close with a curling effort that drifted inches wide, while Ahumuza continued to threaten with runs from the right, but Kabale held firm.
In the closing minutes, Bishop Stuart pushed forward again. A cross from Ainembabazi found Ahumuza at the back post, but his header was blocked by a crowded Kabale defence.
Kabale comfortably saw out the game to secure three crucial points.
The win moves Kabale University to five points, level with Bishop Stuart and one ahead of IUEA in Group B.
With leaders Muteesa Royal on nine points and Bugema on eight, the race for second place remains tight heading into the final round of matches.
UFL action continues on Thursday, March 5, with Group A match in Mbarara City as Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) host two time champions Kampala University.
