2025/26 University Football League | Semifinal | First Leg | Tuesday April 7

  • Kampala University 0-0 YMCA Institute

Kampala University and YMCA Institute played out a cautious goalless draw in their University Football League semifinal first leg at the FUFA Kadiba Stadium on Tuesday evening.

It was a game defined by discipline rather than risk. Both teams kept their shape, fought for control in midfield, and avoided committing too many bodies forward.

The best chance of the first half fell to YMCA in the 25th minute. Nsubuga Gideon broke through midfield and found Wanuume Gilbert, who quickly set up Ebong Mark.

His close-range effort looked destined for the net, but Ssenabulya reacted sharply to make a crucial save and keep Kampala level.

Kampala showed glimpses of threat through Kiseka John, who was lively on the left. One of his early runs and passes into the box caused concern, but YMCA’s defense stayed alert.

For long stretches, chances were limited. Both sides preferred to stay compact, forcing play into tight spaces. By halftime, the score remained 0-0, reflecting the balance of the contest.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Kiweewa Raymond produced a few driving runs for YMCA, but strong defending especially from Ochulu Dennis and Makila kept KU safe.

Kiseka came close just after the hour mark with a shot from distance that went narrowly wide. Later, a well-worked YMCA move nearly unlocked the defense, but Onea stepped in with a timely intervention.

As the game opened up late on, both teams had half-chances. Kiseka delivered a dangerous cross with no one to finish, while at the other end, Wafula made an important save to deny Wasswa Farouk.

In the end, neither side found a breakthrough. The match finished 0-0, leaving everything to play for in the return leg next week.

Attention now shifts to the other semifinal, where Muteesa I Royal University will face St. Lawrence University in a Masaka road clash on Thursday.
