2025/26 University Football League | Friday March 6
- Uganda Martyrs University 1-1 Mountains of the Moon University
Mountains of the Moon University held defending champions Uganda Martyrs University to a 1-1 draw in a Group A University Football League match played Friday evening in Nkozi.
The visitors took an early lead in the ninth minute when David Ahebwa struck from distance.
Set up by Bendowell Mugabi, Ahebwa fired a powerful shot that caught the Uganda Martyrs goalkeeper off guard to put Mountains of the Moon ahead.
Uganda Martyrs responded with sustained pressure led by Wijjo Taban, Ronald Obedgiu and Francis Ogwang, but the visitors defended well.
Julius Kahwa broke up several attacks while Natuhereza Aninamani made a crucial sliding tackle in the box to deny Obedgiu.
Goalkeeper Paddy Luwaga also kept Mountains of the Moon in front before the break, rushing off his line to clear danger when Obedgiu was played through.
The hosts found their equaliser early in the second half. Uganda Martyrs were awarded a penalty after a handball in the area, and Obedgiu calmly converted in the 53rd minute.
Uganda Martyrs pushed hard for a winner but failed to take their chances. Allan Odong missed a clear opportunity after being released by Barnabas Wangi, shooting across goal, and later fired another effort off target under pressure.
Mountains of the Moon stood firm as the Saints pressed late on. Luwaga produced a fine double save to deny Wijjo and Odong, while Wilberforce Okello made key defensive blocks to keep the score level.
Both teams had late chances, with Wangi blasting over the bar for the hosts and Ashraf Kibungo saving from Trevor Raboni.
The draw moves Uganda Martyrs to second in Group A with eight points, while Mountains of the Moon remain fifth with two points.
University Football League action continues on Saturday when King Ceasor University host Ndejje University in Group E.
