Muteesa I Royal University revived their University Football League knockout hopes with a hard-fought 2-1 away win over International University of East Africa (IUEA) on Wednesday in Kansanga.

Nicolas Senyonjo opened the scoring in the 21st minute, calmly slotting home from Brian Rwothomio’s clever pass to give Muteesa an early lead despite IUEA’s dominance in aerial duels.

After the break, IUEA pushed harder and leveled through Trevor Bbale in the 76th minute, finishing off a well-worked move.

But just five minutes later, a defensive lapse from Iga Farouk proved costly as Lutwama Ali’s pinpoint free kick found Akaya Busuulwa, who headed in the winner.

The result gave Muteesa their first away victory of the season, lifting them to six points and keeping their quarterfinal hopes alive.

IUEA, meanwhile, suffered a second straight defeat that leaves their campaign on the brink.

Action continues Thursday as Bugema University host Bishop Stuart University in Bugema.
