Muteesa I Royal University booked their place in the University Football League knockout stage with a hard-fought 1–0 win away to Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara on Thursday evening.
The result sends the Royal Lions through from Group B, joining St. Lawrence University who secured qualification on Wednesday.

Brian Rwothomio scored the decisive goal in the 33rd minute, finishing off a move created by Ali Lutwama. It proved enough for Muteesa I Royal, who defended well to protect their lead and secure the vital victory on the road.
Elsewhere in the same group, Bugema University strengthened their chances of reaching the knockout stage with a 1–0 win over Africa Renewal University. Kenneth Bukenya converted a first-half penalty to lift Bugema to 11 points.
Bugema now sit second in the group and are close to qualification, but must wait for results from other groups to confirm their place.
In another match, International University of East Africa drew 1–1 with Kabale University. Owen Byarunhanga gave IUEA the lead in the 84th minute before Henry Komakech equalised for Kabale in stoppage time.
University Football League action continues on Friday as Mountains of the Moon University host Mbarara University of Science and Technology in Fort Portal.
