University Football League
- Nkumba 1-0 ISBAT
Nkumba University reignited their University Football League qualification hopes after defeating ISBAT University 1-0 in a tense Group C clash on Friday at the Nkumba University grounds.
The defending champions, eager to bounce back from an opening-day loss to YMCA Comprehensive, showed intent early on.
In the 13th minute, forward Kavuma Abbey calmly converted from the penalty spot after Nkumba’s attacker was fouled in the box.
His composed finish sent ISBAT goalkeeper Eric Lubandi the wrong way, sparking celebrations among the home fans.
ISBAT pushed hard to respond, creating several good chances before halftime, but their forwards failed to make them count.
The second half turned into a physical contest, with both defenses holding firm and neither side able to add to the score.
The result leaves ISBAT bottom of Group C with no points from two games, piling pressure on newly appointed coach Ssekiziyivu Juma, who replaced Edwin Laston Haumba earlier this month.
For Nkumba, the narrow win breathes new life into their campaign and keeps their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive. Kyambogo University leads the group with six points from two matches.
Action continues on Saturday in Bombo, where Ndejje University hosts Kumi University in another anticipated encounter.
