2025/26 University Football League | Sunday March 1,

  • Busitema University 0-1 YMCA

Musa Nsubuga had the chance to save Busitema University’s afternoon and maybe their Group C campaign.

In the 90th minute, with the score at 1–0, the forward stepped up to take a penalty in front of a tense home crowd in Wakiso. He blasted it over the bar.

That miss sealed Busitema’s 1–0 defeat to YMCA Institute on Sunday evening and left them rooted to the bottom of Group C without a point.

It was a cruel end to a game Busitema had fought hard to control.

They started brightly. Othieno Jordan created the first opening for Ntale Derrick, who fired over from the edge of the box.

Soon after, Ndugu John met Ali Ssemanda’s cross with a firm header, but goalkeeper Aporu Lazarus reacted quickly to save.

YMCA also threatened. Kisseka John forced a save at the near post after a lively run, while Busitema survived a quick counter when Kisseka shot wide under pressure.

Both sides created chances before the break, but poor finishing kept the game goalless at halftime.

Busitema returned with urgency. Lema Otim missed a simple tap-in in the 57th minute, and Ndugu curled a free kick just inches wide. The hosts were pushing, but their wastefulness proved costly.

In the 67th minute, Wasswa Farouk punished them. The forward struck powerfully from range to give YMCA the lead, assisted by Kaganzi Banton. It was the breakthrough the visitors needed.

Busitema threw everything forward. Ntale tested the keeper from distance, and Opio Gabriel’s follow up flew over.

In the 87th minute, Asiku Jude made a vital clearance to deny Otim with the goalkeeper beaten.

Then came the late penalty. One kick to rescue a point. One kick to spark hope.

Nsubuga missed. The final whistle confirmed YMCA’s win, sending them top of Group C on seven points, level with Kyambogo University.

Busitema remain bottom, still searching for their first point and now left to wonder what might have been.

Action in the University Football League returns on Tuesday with St Lawrence University hosts Lira University at Kavule.
