Soroti University announced their arrival in the 13th University Football League with a historic 1-0 win over YMCA Comprehensive Institute on Sunday at the Soroti University Grounds.

Forward Ssentamu Oscar was the hero, scoring the game’s only goal in the 35th minute after pouncing on a poor clearance from YMCA’s Wasswa Jessy and curling a fine shot into the top corner past goalkeeper Bbosa Akimu, sending the home fans into wild celebration.

After a goalless draw against Busitema University in their opener, Soroti came into this match with renewed confidence and attacking intent. They created several early chances but were kept out by Akimu’s brilliant saves.

Once ahead, Soroti defended with determination, with Luyima Eric and Lodu Robinson standing firm at the back to frustrate YMCA’s late pressure.

The loss dented YMCA’s qualification hopes after their earlier win over defending champions Nkumba University, leaving them behind Group C leaders Kyambogo University (6 points).

Soroti’s victory lifted them to second on 4 point, an impressive achievement for newcomers.

The league takes a short break before resuming on Tuesday, when Uganda Christian University (UCU) host Kumi University in Mukono.
