St Lawrence University and Muteesa I Royal University are through to the semi-finals of the University Football League after contrasting but convincing quarterfinal performances.

For Muteesa I Royal, it is a historic breakthrough. The Masaka-based side reached the last four for the first time after edging Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi on away goals.

Ali Lutwama was the difference once again, converting a penalty in the 48th minute to hand his side a 1-0 win in the return leg.

The striker had also scored a stoppage-time penalty in the first leg in Nkozi, ensuring a 2-2 aggregate score and safe passage for Muteesa.

While Muteesa relied on resilience, St Lawrence University showed pure dominance.

Playing at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, St Lawrence brushed aside Ndejje University 3-0 in the return leg to seal a 5-1 aggregate victory.

Julius Kalanda led the charge with a brace, scoring just before halftime and moments after the restart.

Ambrose Alele added the third in the 54th minute to cap a commanding display from Davis Nono Ssoziโ€™s side.

St Lawrence had already taken control of the tie in the first leg, winning 2-1 at Kavule, and left no doubt in the return leg with a clinical performance.

They now join Muteesa I Royal University and Kampala University in the semi-finals.

The final spot will be decided on Thursday in Buwambo, where YMCA Comprehensive Institute hosts Kumi University after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
