2025/26 University Football League | Tuesday March 3

  • St Lawrence University 3-0 Lira University

St Lawrence University kept their spot atop Group D with a dominant 3-0 win over Lira University at Crown City on a Tuesday evening.

The hosts started strong, pressing Lira from the first whistle. Okello Ivan James came close early, rattling the crossbar and firing a long-range shot just wide.

Lira’s goalkeeper Meri Samson kept his team in the game with a stunning save to deny Collins Ssemanda in the 18th minute.

Persistence paid off in the 33rd minute. A clever pass from Ziraba Ronnie found James, who powered a shot past Samson to give St Lawrence the lead.

Lira had a chance to equalize when Alele Innocent went one on one with Mohammed Kateete, but the St Lawrence keeper made a brilliant save to preserve the advantage until halftime.

The second half saw St Lawrence turn dominance into control. Mukiibi Sharafah doubled the lead in the 61st minute after tapping home a cross from Yasin Owane.

He then completed the scoring in the 88th minute, finishing a perfect Muhamud Ssemanda cross.

Lira pressed for a consolation goal but were repeatedly denied by tight defending and timely saves.

The win keeps St Lawrence on six points from two games, firmly at the top of the group, while Lira remain without a point.

UFL action continues Wednesday March 4 with Group B action as Kabale University host Bishop Stuart University in Kabale.
