University Football League
- YMCA 1-0 Nkumba University
Former champions Nkumba University suffered a heartbreaking 1–0 defeat on Monday as YMCA Comprehensive Institute grabbed a dramatic late victory in the University Football League at the lively YMCA Buwambo campus.
Second-half substitute Magezi Enock was the hero, pouncing in the first minute of added time.
Nkumba goalkeeper Kazibwe Ronald spilled a powerful free kick from Luggya Ashraf, and Magezi calmly buried the rebound to spark wild celebrations among the home crowd.
The first half was tense and goalless, with both teams trading attacks but failing to break through.
After the interval, YMCA tightened their grip on midfield as Kisseka John, Kaganzi Ibrahim, and Luggya dictated the pace, forcing Nkumba’s Mukiibi Saad, Bwiruka Solomon, and Nsubuga Joel onto the back foot.
Nkumba captain Lubega Ismael worked tirelessly to create chances, but YMCA skipper Kyandiga Ibrahim marshaled the defense with composure, shutting down every threat.
The win lifts YMCA to second in the group on three points, level with Kyambogo University, who earlier edged ISBAT 2–1 at Nakivubo.
Nkumba, champions of the league’s 11th edition, must regroup quickly after their shaky start.
Action resumes Wednesday when Gulu University hosts archrivals Lira University in another eagerly awaited clash.
