UG20 2025: Aboojo, Ismaili storm into final after dramatic semifinal wins

Aboojo and the Ismaili Community booked their places in the UG20 final after two gripping semifinal victories, one chaotic, one controlled, both soaked in pressure.

Heavy morning rain forced the first semifinal into a nine-over dash, and Aboojo adjusted quicker than favourites GM Sugar.

Sent in to bat, they stumbled early at 18/2 after Brian Asaba fell and Joseph Baguma went first ball.

Then Pascal Murungi took over. Walking in with calm purpose, he rebuilt with Amos Ahura, who anchored the innings while Murungi launched a blistering counterattack. His 57 off 26 balls lifted Aboojo to 94/2.

GM Sugar began their chase confidently through Mehulkumar and Rahul Patel, but Aboojo’s fielders flipped the momentum.

Fortunate Alijuna pulled off two brilliant catches at long-on, Asaba struck twice, and rising pressure choked the chase.

GM Sugar stalled at 73/5, giving Aboojo a 21-run win built on grit and Murungi’s fireworks.

The second semifinal, an intense Group C rematch was all about discipline.

With Riazat Ali Shah back, Ismaili chose to bat but lost Kamran Wali Khan and Shehzad Khan early, slipping to 52/2.

Pervaiz Ali then played the innings of the day: a steady, unfussy 40 off 39 that held Ismaili together and carried them to a competitive 121.

Avengers started brightly, cruising to 35 without loss, but the moment Ismaili found the breakthrough, everything shifted.

Their bowlers tightened the screws, defended every run, and picked wickets whenever Avengers tried to reset.

The chase slowly suffocated, and Avengers finished on 109/7, 12 runs short.

Now, two teams with contrasting styles, Aboojo’s explosive fight and Ismaili’s disciplined control, meet in a final loaded with intensity and high stakes.
