Uganda 2 Secures Second Victory at World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad

Uganda’s U16 chess team continued their impressive run at the World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad in Netherlands, with a 3-1 victory for Uganda 2 over Thailand 1 in the fifth round.

The win was powered by wins from Mathew Mwase and Tatiana Zuri, who play board three and four, respectively. Shiloh Tandeka and Ethan Kigundu drew their respective games.

The victory sees Uganda 2 go above South Africa 1 and Japan in the table standings. These two teams started the competition ranked ahead of the side.

Uganda entered three teams into the competition. Uganda 1, which is made up of Arthur Mwase, Edwin Pido, Nygaard Ajiri, and Caroline Nabirye, have one win so far.

Uganda 3, consisting of Daniel Dokoria, Ssubi Lwanga Kiwanuka, Nakasi Nansamba Kiwanuka, and Hailey Michelle Nio, have yet to win a game.

They will be hoping to get their first win when they face Malta 1 in the sixth round on Thursday.
