Uganda advanced to the quarter finals of the Street Child Cricket World Cup thanks to their immaculate run in the group stages.

After beating Rwanda by 6 wickets in their opening game on Monday, Uganda returned to action on Wednesday with four games.

Emmanuel Isaneez‘s team first took on Mexico in the morning. They won that game by 6 wickets, with Jonathan Nyiiro leading the side from the batting end.

Nyiiro scored 15 runs as Uganda chased the 21 runs Mexico had put on board.

The team then took on England. It was one of the games that each team exhausted their Overs (5), but after Uganda setting 85, England were only able to score 48, and Uganda won the game by 37 runs.

Team captain Gerald Olipa (15) and Lorna Anyait (28) scored the most runs for the team in this game.

Nepal was up next for the East Africans, and like they did to the Mexicans, Uganda won the game by 6 wickets.

Zimbabwe was Uganda’s last group opponent. Uganda batted first in this game and put the chase at 62. Olipa once again came in handy with the bat, scoring 20 runs, but Zimbabwe managed to score only 32 in their five Overs.

The results mean Uganda top Group B with 10 points, and they advance to the Quarter finals with a 100% record in the group stages.

As Group B winners, Uganda will face the team placed third in Group A.

That will either be South Africa or Sri Lanka depending on the outcome in Group A on Friday.

The quarter finals are set to take place on Saturday.
