Uganda aims for 5th Place finish at World Rugby HSBC 7s Challenger Series

Both the Uganda Men’s and Women’s Rugby 7s teams will be competing for a 5th-place finish on Day Two of the 2025 World Rugby HSBC 7s Challenger Series at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.

After mixed results on Day One, both teams secured second place in their respective groups, keeping their hopes alive for a strong finish.

Uganda Women’s Team battles back after Early setback

The Uganda Women’s team, making their second appearance in the HSBC 7s Challenger Series, had a tough start with a 7-24 loss to Colombia in their opening match.

However, the Africa 7s bronze medalists bounced back impressively in their second game, securing a 29-5 victory over Belgium.

With these results, Uganda finished second in Pool C with three points, just behind Colombia.

Their performance has earned them a spot in the 5th-place playoff semifinal, where they will face Thailand at 1:22 p.m. EAT on Day Two.

Uganda Men’s Team also targeting 5th Place despite strong start

The Uganda Men’s 7s team began their 2025 international campaign with a strong 24-14 win over Brazil.

However, their hopes for a semifinal spot were dashed after a 32-17 loss to Samoa in their second match.

Like their female counterparts, the men’s team finished second in Pool C with three points, trailing Samoa but ahead of Brazil.

They will now face Portugal at 11:44 a.m. EAT in the 5th-place playoff semifinal.

New Look for Uganda 7s Teams

One of the notable highlights of Uganda’s participation in this tournament is the introduction of a new playing kit.

The team is sporting a fresh white and black design by Mafro, adding a stylish touch to their campaign.
