Uganda Announces 21-Member Team for World Athletics Championships in Tokyo

Uganda Athletics has officially revealed its 21-member team for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan. The team, which includes 11 women and 10 men, will compete from September 13th to 21st. This roster was announced in a release from Uganda Athletics on Wednesday, September 3rd.

The squad features a mix of veteran talent and rising stars across various track and field events. The women’s team is led by notable athletes such as Halima Nakayi, the 800-meter specialist; Shida Leni, Uganda’s top 400-meter sprinter; and Peruth Chemtai, a strong contender in the 3000-meter steeplechase. The women’s marathon team is headlined by Stella Chesang.

On the men’s side, the team boasts long-distance powerhouses Victor Kiplangat and Solomon Mutai. In the 10,000 meters, Dan Kibet will represent Uganda, while Oscar Chelimo aims to make his mark in the 5000 meters.
