The Uganda Athletics Federation has taken a rebranding step and changed its name to Uganda Athletics in celebration of 100 years of existence.
The change was announced in an annual meeting held at the Namboole Stadium’s meeting room on 10th May 2025.
The President of the federation, Dominic Otucet, spoke about the purposes of the changes.
“We have changed our name from Uganda Athletics Federation to Uganda Athletics. This is made for us to walk in line with our International Body, the World Athletics, and also we have changed our logo to match our new name.”
The National Athletics body is in the process of celebrating 100 years of existence.
Over the years, Athletics has been the sport that shaped Uganda on the international map and Otucet announced the commencement of the commitment.
“As the sport of Athletics, we are working well in compliance with the government of Uganda through the National Council of Sports, we are looking forward to continuing the status.
“We are stepping to align with the new sports law, aligning with our International Body.”
The centenary celebration shall happen on two occasions on 7th June 2025 within the John Aki Bua Meet, where over 10000 kids shall have an Athletics engagement and the Mass 5 kilometres race for big people in the morning.
In the evening, the elite athletics race will take place with the World Athletics vice president, also the President of the Kenya Athletics Federation, Lieutenant General Jackson Tuwei, attending the event.
The final cerebrations will happen in November 2025 with an awarding dinner for those who have served the sport of Athletics to excel in the country and on the international scene.
