Uganda Boxing Champions League: Kemis – Mugisha bout to headline Week 2

The Uganda Boxing Champions League is back for its highly anticipated Week 2, and the stage is set for a thrilling evening of fierce punches, personal vendettas and rising stars.

Headlining Saturday night’s card at Club Obligato is a blockbuster Lightweight (60kg Elite) bout between Mutajjazi’s fiery Kemis Ibrahim and COBAP’s calculated striker Mugisha Patrick.

Last week, the Champions League roared into action, but not without heartbreak. Kibuli’s Mutaasa Ashraf of Mutajjazi suffered a crushing first-round stoppage, casting a shadow over his club’s strong reputation.

For his teammate Kemis Ibrahim, this week is more than competition, it’s about restoring Kibuli’s name.

“I don’t know if he’s heard of Kibuli!” Kemis taunted during a press briefing before weigh in. “He won’t manage, if we were told to start now, still he wouldn’t survive.”

Mugisha, a rising force discovered in the recent National Open, will be looking to silence Kemis and make a statement of his own. The main event promises not just action but attitude.

The action night will also star with a high-energy Flyweight (51kg Elite) contest between Kalinabiri’s Jonah Sekamate and COBAP’s confident brawler Kimera Moses. Sparks have already started flying, literally after Friday’s weigh-in.

Kimera, brimming with bravado, didn’t mince words:
“The last person I faced from Kalinabiri didn’t survive my jabs, not even my punches. Now what about him? Short people don’t beat, he said it himself, he’s short.”

But Jonah isn’t backing down. Calm but determined, he shot back,
“I’m going to show him what I’m made of, and that short people can fight better.”

Kiwatule’s humble fan-favourite Mukwaya Edward, better known as Pastor, will trade blows with Katwe Boxing Club’s Midago Abu in the Welterweight (67kg) division.

Known for his ring charisma and resilience, Mukwaya hopes to deliver a sermon of punches that will keep his winning streak alive.

The night will also shine the spotlight on women’s boxing, as reigning Lightweight (60kg Elite) champion Nandaula Zahara of Lukanga, titleholder for both 2023 and 2024 takes on the promising Namagembe Aisha of Nakawa.

Zahara’s unmatched skill and discipline will be tested against Namagembe’s hunger and fresh ambition.
