Uganda Cricket Association launched the annual Boys Schools Cricket Tournament, set to take place from August 24th-31st August in Jinja.
Jinja will be hosting the tournament for the third year running. This eagerly anticipated event, organized by East Enders Sports Hub with UCA as the administrators, will bring together the best cricket-playing secondary schools from six different regions.
“A big thanks goes to UCA for increasing the number of participating schools. This will go a long way in increasing our talent pool for representative teams as well as the future players for Uganda,” Davis Turinawe, UCA Development Manager said.
The tournament which was launched today afternoon starts with a qualification round that will feature 53 boys’ schools from six different sports hubs in Uganda.
The best 18 schools from the qualifiers will compete for the title at the finals. Home side, Jinja SSS are the defending champions.
The games will be played at six different venues in Jinja including; Jinja SSS (Main Oval), Jinja College (2 venues), Busoga College Mwiri, Kakira SS, and Kiira PS.
“This edition has come at the perfect time when young cricketers in Uganda have been inspired by the senior men’s team at the T20 World Cup in West Indies,” Isaac Imaka, Founder East Enders noted adding.
“This gives them a chance to showcase their talent in the hope that they can grow into national assets that will represent Uganda at bigger tournaments.”
The event is made possible through the generous support of partners East Enders, JACC, Sky View, and Jinja SSS.
