The Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) will host the National Juniors Chess Championship on August 8th, 22nd, and 23rd at Gloria’s Garden in Namugongo.

The annual event is open to all juniors in the country and will be divided into Open and Girls sections.

The championship will double as a qualifying event for the Africa Youth Chess Championship, which will be held in Cairo, Egypt in September.

It will also serve as a honing ground for the team that will be traveling to Eindhoven, Netherlands for the World Youth U-16 Chess Olympiad in August.

Last year’s champion, Benjamin Netanyahu Ajiri, will be defending his title. He will face stiff competition from Arthur Mwase, who he beat in a tie-break last year, as well as Nygaard Ajiri, Ethan Kigundu, and Jacob Kairu.

FM Harold Wanyama, the national team coach, said that the National Juniors Chess Championship is an important event for the UCF as it helps them “keep track on the best Juniors” they have.

The championship is open to all juniors in the country. To register, please visit the UCF website or contact the UCF office.
