Uganda’s women’s beach volleyball duo, Nancy Chebet and Peace Busingye, delivered a spirited performance to claim bronze at the 2025 CAVB Zone V Beach Volleyball Championship held in Bujumbura, Burundi, from October 23–25.

Nancy Chebet and Peace Busingye.

Chebet and Busingye showed remarkable resilience, rallying from a set down to defeat Tanzania’s Evalyne Albert and Mariam Omary 2–1 (16–21, 21–15, 21–01) in Saturday’s bronze medal match.

Their journey to the podium was anything but easy. In the semifinals, the Ugandans fell narrowly to Burundi’s Emelyne Igiraneza and Nadia Buntubwimana in a tense three-set thriller (16–21, 21–19, 12–15).

Despite the setback, they regrouped impressively for the third-place playoff, blending strong defense with sharp attacking play.

After losing the opening set, they found their rhythm in the second before completely dominating the decider, conceding just a single point.

Head coach Edward Bwenje praised his team’s determination and growth throughout the tournament.

“I’m grateful to God for this bronze medal and proud of Peace and Nancy. It’s been a hard push for them,” Bwenje said.

“We learned a lot here. The hosts trained for over a month, and that gave them an edge in the semifinals. Our team may have lacked experience, but their fitness and fighting spirit were exceptional.”

The men on the other side finished at the quarterfinals.
