Uganda’s national cricket team continued their winning form on their Tour of South Africa with a hardfought three-wicket victory against Tuks XI in a 50-over match today.
This follows their successful outing in the warm-up T20 format earlier in the tour, making it two wins in as many matches for the Cricket Cranes.
Playing under challenging cold conditions, Uganda chased down Tuks XI’s 220 all-out with a resilient display, sealing the win with 21 balls to spare.
Youngster Juma Miyaji was instrumental in the victory, contributing with both ball and bat. After taking two crucial wickets in the first innings, Miyaji finished the match in style by hitting a six out of the ground, securing Uganda’s three-wicket triumph.
Uganda’s bowling attack was led by Cosmas Kyewuta, who took 3 for 31 in his 8 overs, supported by Alpesh Ramjani (2/35 in 10 overs) and Joseph Baguma (2/35 in 7 overs), while Miyaji added 2 for 43 in his 9.2 overs.
In their chase, Uganda encountered a few tough moments, especially when three key batsmen—Raghav Dhawan (43), Dinesh Nakrani (33), and Robinson Obuya (25)—fell to LBW decisions that could have gone either way.
Nevertheless, Ramjani’s unbeaten 44 off 50 balls steered the team to victory, alongside crucial contributions from Dhawan and Nakrani.
Uganda is preparing for the upcoming ICC Challenge League B tournament, set to take place in Kampala and Entebbe this November, as part of their qualification journey for the 2027 Cricket World Cup.
The team is using this South African tour as a platform to hone their skills ahead of the crucial tournament.
The next challenge for Uganda is a tough 50-over fixture against the Titans at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Sunday, October 6.
