Uganda Cranes started their CECAFA pre-CHAN journey with a 1-0 loss to hosts Tanzania on Tuesday at the Black Rhino Academy Stadium in Karatu.

Iddi Suleimani scored the only goal in the 14th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to slot past goalkeeper Joel Mtakubwa. It was a blow Uganda never recovered from.

Yunus Sentamu and captain Allan Okello pushed for an equalizer, but Uganda failed to register a shot on target in the first half.

After the break, both teams made changes, but Tanzania’s midfield, led by Feisal Salum and Mudathiri Yahya, controlled the tempo and shut down Uganda’s attacks.

Coach Morley Byekwaso remained positive.

“We conceded early from a mistake, but this game showed us what we need to work on,” he said. “These matches help us grow.”

Uganda next faces CHAN champions Senegal on Thursday. Tanzania will close the tournament against Senegal on July 27.
