Uganda’s national football team, the Cranes, have jumped six places in the latest FIFA World Rankings, moving from 88th in July to 82nd globally.

The rise follows strong showings in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with a 4-0 win over Mozambique and a 2-0 victory against Somalia.

The team also reached the quarterfinals of the delayed 2024 African Nations Championship, co-hosted across East Africa last month, boosting their international profile.

Morocco remains Africa’s top-ranked team in 11th place, followed by Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Tunisia, Cameroon, South Africa, and Mali. Globally, Spain leads the rankings, ahead of France, Argentina, England, and Portugal.

Uganda’s steady climb reflects growing consistency and ambition, signaling the Cranes as an emerging force in African football ahead of the next World Cup qualifiers.
