In a move that will capture the attention of East African football fans, Uganda Cranes striker Steven Desse Mukwala has officially signed a two year deal with Libyan side Al‑Nasser SC.

The 26 year‑old was formally unveiled by the club, marking a bold step in a career that has taken him from local leagues to some of Africa’s most competitive football stages.

Mukwala’s departure from Tanzania’s Simba SC brings an end to a chapter filled with promise and frustration.

Steven “Desse” Mukwala.

Despite being touted as a “key player” in 2024 and 2025, the Uganda international struggled for consistent playing time amid a squad overhaul.

Rumors of his exit had swirled for months, and now the move to Al‑Nasser offers the striker a fresh start and a chance to make his mark in North Africa.

Born on 15 July 1999, Mukwala’s rise mirrors the ambition and resilience of a young footballer determined to succeed.

From grassroots football in Masaza Cup action with Singo Ssaza to development at the Edgars Youth Programme, he steadily climbed the ranks.

His professional journey includes stints at

• Vipers SC (Uganda)

• Maroons FC (loan)

• URA FC (Uganda)

• Asante Kotoko (Ghana), where he enjoyed a prolific run

• Simba SC (Tanzania), joining in July 2024

At Simba, Mukwala impressed with key goals in domestic and continental matches, earning a nomination for the FUFA Best Foreign‑Based Player Award.

Internationally, he has been a mainstay for the Uganda Cranes since his 2019 senior debut, featuring in 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaigns and World Cup qualifiers.

Al‑Nasser SC now adds Mukwala to their ranks as they seek to strengthen their attack for the upcoming season.

With experience across East and West African football, the Ugandan striker brings both pace and versatility, as well as a growing reputation that stretches beyond his home country.
