Uganda Cricket Association has named a team of 14 players travelling to Rwanda for the second edition of the East Africa T20 Cup.

Uganda won this tournament last year, but it takes a changed team to defend it. A few changes have been made to the team that went to Namibia last month.

A few additions have been made. They include debutant David Wabwire, and returnees, Roger Mukasa, Siraje Nsubuga, Jonathan Ssebanja and Ronak Patel who last featured for the Cricket Cranes in March at the Bilateral Series in Qatar.

Nsubuga and Mukasa missed the tour to Namibia last month due to injuries, but Ssebanja returns after a two year absence.

Ssebanja’s last game for Uganda came in April, 2021 in Namibia. Thanks to his form in the league and in the national team trials, the Tornado Bee all-rounder has been given another chance.

A surprise drop was veteran Frank Nsubuga. The 43-year-old had not missed out on a Ugandan team since 2021.

Nsubuga and Robinson Obuya are the players that went to Uganda’s most recent tour (Namibia) that have been dropped.

Juma Miyaji and Cosmos Kyewuta are still sidelined due to injuries. They are joined by Riazat Ali Shah who injured his ankle yesterday during a training session.

Dinesh Nakrani misses out too due to family issues.

Uganda will be competing against Tanzania, Ghana and hosts Rwanda starting as they seek to defend the trophy they won last year.

The team leaves for Rwanda on Friday night.
