Uganda’s U-17 national team, the Cubs, wrap up their Dubai Youth Challenge Cup campaign on Tuesday evening with a clash against South American side Paraguay at the Al Hamriya Cultural and Sports Club.
The game is their final tune-up before heading to Qatar for their first-ever FIFA U-17 World Cup, set for November 3–27.
It will be Uganda’s second test against South American opposition after a 1–1 draw with Venezuela last week, when striker James Bogere scored.
On Sunday, the Cubs fell 2–1 to Panama despite taking an early lead through Simon Wanyama’s 13th-minute strike.
Panama turned the game around with goals from Gordon Gerson (penalty, 20’) and Richards Moises (58’).
Head coach Brian Ssenyondo said the Dubai friendlies have offered vital experience and perspective.
“The boys have really shown the urge and willingness to play,” Ssenyondo said.
“These build-ups have been crucial because they’ve painted a clear picture of what we should expect in the main tournament.”
Uganda will face Canada, Chile, and France in Group K at the World Cup. After meetings with Venezuela and Panama, the test against Paraguay gives the Cubs another glimpse of South American flair and intensity, qualities they’ll likely meet again against Chile and France.
