As KCCA FC travels to Kyamate Stadium for a quarterfinal clash in the Uganda Cup, one burning question looms: Does Kaaro Karungi have what it takes to deepen KCCAโ€™s wounds?

Itโ€™s been a turbulent spell for the Lugogo giants, whose Uganda Premier League campaign has gone off the rails. With three straight defeats, including a narrow 1-0 loss to URA, KCCAโ€™s hopes for league glory have all but vanished. The pressure now shifts squarely to the Uganda Cup, perhaps their last realistic shot at silverware this season.

โ€œThis is an important game for the club, especially at this stage of the season,โ€ said interim head coach Jackson Magera, speaking to the clubโ€™s media.

โ€œThe boys are in good spirits and ready to fight. We know it wonโ€™t be easy away from home, but weโ€™re prepared to get the job done.โ€

But it wonโ€™t be easy, not in Ntungamo and certainly not against a Kaaro Karungi side that has captured the imagination of local fans with their giant-slaying Cup run.

The Big League outfit, led by seasoned tactician Richard Makumbi is enjoying a dream ride in this yearโ€™s tournament. From brushing aside Karuguza United in the Round of 64 to dispatching Busia Young and most impressively, humbling top-flight side UPDF 3-0 in the Round of 16, Kaaro Karungi have proven theyโ€™re not just here to make up the numbers, theyโ€™re here to compete.

With home advantage, momentum and nothing to lose, the Ibanda-based underdogs will be eager to add KCCAโ€™s name to their list of victims.

On the other hand, while KCCAโ€™s league form has been far from convincing, their Cup performances have been impressive. A 4-0 demolition of Rwenzori Lions in the previous round reminded fans of their firepower and pedigree.

However, their trip to Ntungamo comes at a cost Etienne Katenga, Filbert Obenchan, Sadat Anaku and Isa Mubiru are all ruled out due to injury and did not travel with the squad.

That leaves Mageraโ€™s side vulnerable, facing not just a fearless opponent but also the weight of expectation and growing desperation to rescue a season threatening to spiral.

For Kaaro Karungi, this match is a golden opportunity. For KCCA, itโ€™s a test of resilience.
