Uganda Cup: Happy Boyz Kagaba edge Six O’Clock on penalties to reach quarterfinals

Happy Boyz Kagaba Football Club became the first team to reach the quarterfinals of the Plascon Co-sponsored Uganda Cup after defeating Six O’Clock 5–4 in a penalty shootout in Kassanda on Monday.

The Round of 16 clash at Kagaba Primary School playground ended goalless in normal time, with both sides struggling to find a breakthrough despite several attempts.

With the match level after 90 minutes, the contest was decided from the penalty spot where Happy Boyz Kagaba held their nerve to convert five kicks and seal a narrow 5–4 victory.

The win sends the Kassanda-based side into the last eight, making them the first club to secure a place in the quarterfinals of this year’s competition.

Round of 16 action in the Stanbic Uganda Cup continues on Tuesday with a doubleheader at the MTN Omondi Stadium. NEC FC face Lugazi FC at 3 p.m., before KCCA FC take on Onduparaka FC at 7 p.m.

The winners will advance to the quarterfinals ahead of the draw by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations competitions department.

The winner of the tournament will represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup. Defending champions Vipers SC remain in the race.
