SC Villa cruised to a commanding 3-0 win over Seeta United in the Round of 64 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup on Thursday, January 23, at the Seeta C.O.U Primary School Playground.
The win saw the Jogoos advance to the Round of 32 but it was Hassan Mubiru’s standout contribution that captured the attention of many.
Though Mubiru has not featured as a regular starter in the Uganda Premier League this season, his performance in the Cup game demonstrated his potential and ability to step up when called upon.

The match saw SC Villa stamp their authority early, with Aslam Ssemakula opening the scoring just four minutes into the game.
Mubiru played a role in the buildup to that goal, celebrating alongside Ssemakula after the early breakthrough.
The match was effectively sealed early in the second half, with Mubiru’s influence growing as the game progressed.
In the 54th minute, Mubiru’s driving run into the box resulted in a foul by a Seeta United defender, earning SC Villa a penalty.
Jonah Kakande made no mistake from the spot, extending Villa’s lead to 2-0. Mubiru’s ability to create dangerous situations in and around the box reflected his technical skill and presence on the field.

Just six minutes later, Mubiru’s impact on the game continued to shine through. He delivered a perfect corner kick that Arnold Odong met with precision, heading the ball into the net to secure the 3-0 scoreline. Mubiru’s corner demonstrated not just his versatility but also his contribution to the team’s attacking set pieces.
In addition to the goals and assists, SC Villa maintained a solid defensive record, as the team managed to travel back home with a clean sheet thanks to Goalkeeper Norman Angufindru.
Head coach Morley Byekwaso will no doubt be pleased with his team’s comprehensive performance, and Mubiru’s display will give him more options as the tournament progresses and the League resumes.
SC Villa’s dominant win sees them join other Uganda Premier League sides in the next round, with the likes of defending champions Kitara FC, NEC FC, Mbarara City, and Vipers SC all also advancing.
As SC Villa looks ahead to the next round, Mubiru’s performance will have added weight in the minds of the coaching staff, perhaps paving the way for more playing time in upcoming matches.
Uganda Cup action will continue on Friday, January 24, when KCCA FC faces non-league side 403 Brigade in Napak, with all eyes on the next round of exciting matchups.
The 51st edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, also sponsored by Plascon Uganda, is not just about trophies, it’s a platform for nurturing young talent.
