KOBs Rugby Club survived a fierce challenge from Toyota Buffaloes to clinch a dramatic 16–14 win in their Uganda Cup duel on Saturday.
The first half was tight and scrappy, ending 3–3 after both teams struggled to find rhythm.
KOBs took an early lead through a Joseph Aredo penalty and dominated territory early on but failed to turn pressure into points.
Their maul was repeatedly stopped by Buffaloes’ disciplined defence, while a lively kicking battle between Aredo, Karim Arinaitwe, Humphrey Ndahura, and Baddokwaya provided rare sparks in a low-scoring half.
Buffaloes grew stronger as the game wore on, with Ndahura levelling through a penalty before halftime.
After the break, they struck first, Douglas Musoke’s sharp line created space for winger Moses Olweny to score the opening try.
Ndahura missed the conversion but later added a penalty to stretch their lead to 11–3.
Aredo responded with another penalty for KOBs, but when Hussein Shein added three more points for Buffaloes to make it 14–6, the visitors seemed in control.
Then came KOBs’ late surge. Youngster Shariq Okole powered over after a strong scrum, and substitute Ibrahim Khemis converted to bring the hosts within one point.
Moments later, a high tackle on Arinaitwe handed Khemis the chance to win it and he made no mistake, calmly slotting the decisive penalty to seal KOBs’ 16–14 victory.
