Uganda Cup: Third straight final for Vipers SC

Fresh from winning the Uganda Premier League, Vipers SC has now made their third successive Uganda Cup final.

Despite losing 1-0 to Soltilo Bright Stars FC at Kavumba Recreation Grounds on Tuesday, the Kansai Plascon-powered side progressed.

Forward, Nelson Senkatuka‘s goal for Bright Stars was not enough to have them play their second final in history, after their last in 2019 when they lost to Proline FC.

Vipers had all but finished the job in the first leg at the St Mary’s Stadium in a Twaake style as they coloured the visitors 4-0.

In Kavumba, it was a cagey start to the game as both sides had trouble mastering the attacking threat in the final third at either end.

Asaph Mwebaze’s charges, however, nearly scored in the 35th minute but Senkatuka was denied by an excellent Fabien Mutombora save.

In the 40th minute, Senkatuka wasn’t to be denied this time, as he capitalized on a Rogers Torach mistake, to score past Mutombora.

Bright Stars kept the search in the second half but couldn’t find a way, to eventually settle for the win in their final game of the campaign.

The win gave something for their fans to smile about, after an agonizing 5-0 defeat in their final league game to KCCA FC last time out.

For Vipers, they are looking for their first-ever domestic double, having clinched the Uganda Premier League last Saturday.

Alex Isabirye’s side will take on Big League side Police FC in the final this Saturday at the Akii-Bua Memorial Stadium in Lira.
