2026 Uganda Cup | Saturday April 4
- URA FC (4)2-2(2) KCCA FC
Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club has sealed a second place in the 2026 Uganda Cup Semifinals after beating Kampala Capital City Authority on penalties 4-2, with Ronald Otti and Goalkeeper Muhammad Ssekkeba playing decisive roles.
The game, which took place at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo War Memorial, saw KCCA FC start brightly, with Saidi Mayanja putting them ahead just three minutes in.
URA FC continued to struggle throughout the first half, forcing Coach Hussein Mbalangu to make a first-half change, introducing Ismail Mugulusi for Huud Muliki in the 40th minute. Though the change failed to make an immediate impact, halftime arrived with the visitors still leading 1-0.
The Tax collectors continued to struggle in the second half and again conceded when Harbert Achai curled a free kick into the far corner, beating Ssekkeba on his left-hand side to make it 2-0 in the 55th minute, a goal that exposed poor game reading from the goalkeeper.
As URA FC continued to show no signs of bouncing back into the game, Mbalangu executed tactical double changes by taking off James Begisa and Moses Waiswa for Bruno Bunyaga and Norman Namanya, forcing captain Moses Aliro to fill the void left by Begisa at right back.
After the changes, URA FC started to get back into the game but were still a bit loose until another substitution when Mbalangu brought on Olimi Nyarwa for Fred Amaku to complete the revival patterns.
On the other side, Brian Ssenyondo and Jackson Magera attempted to cool the game by bringing in Rogers Mugisha and Ashiraf Muguma for Alex Yiga and Said Mayanja in the 75th minute; however, the two changes proved costly for the Kasasiro boys.
As URA FC gained control of the play near KCCA FC’s goal, John Innocent Kisolo struck from outside the box. The ball deflected off Obenchan and into the net, allowing URA FC to pull a goal back with five minutes remaining in the match.
Immediately, the KCCA FC technical bench quickly substituted in striker Emmanuel Anyama for Sammy Ssebaduka, but it was a futile effort as URA FC managed to create a dramatic comeback. Defender Ronald Otti headed in Aliro’s set piece that found him around 16 yards from the goal to beat Mutwalib Mugolofa in the 90+3 minute, sending the game to extra time.
In extra time, KCCA FC wanted to finish the game but URA FC played with composure, incorporating delaying tactics throughout the 30 minutes, seemingly wanting the game to go to a shootout, which ultimately happened.
In the shootout, Joseph Ssemuju stepped up first for URA FC and converted. Joel Sserunjoji made no mistake for KCCA. In the second round, Mutwalib Mugolofa saved Disan Galiwango’s effort and Ssekkeba denied Achai’s.
Both teams scored three straight penalties with Aliro and Otti successfully converting their attempts for URA FC while Mugume scored for KCCA FC in between. Then, Ssekkeba again stopped Enock Walusimbi’s effort, giving Mugulusi the chance to seal the quarterfinal victory.
Following Vipers SC, who eliminated NEC FC also on penalties and URA FC, the Uganda Cup shall commence on April 5 and 6 with Kitara FC hosting Express FC in Hoima on Sunday while Starbon side Happy Boyz Kagaba shall host SC Villa in Kasanda on Monday.
