Cricket Uganda has reached a historic milestone with the acquisition of 15 acres of land in Nakasajja–Gayaza, about 27 kilometres from Lugogo, to establish the country’s first-ever permanent Home of Cricket.

Finalized on November 1, 2025, this long-awaited achievement ends a 20-year search for a dedicated home for the sport, a dream pursued by generations of players and administrators.

Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) Chairman Jackson Kavuma called the acquisition a “generational breakthrough.”

“This marks a historic moment for Ugandan cricket,” Kavuma said.

“The Board stood united, and I commend CEO Evelyn Kabongerwa and her team for securing legitimate, dispute-free land. Uganda cricket can now breathe.”

Although one club, Tornado C.C., opted out for personal reasons, the majority of member clubs endorsed the purchase through the UCA Land Fund. All due diligence, including surveys and environmental assessments, was successfully completed.

The UCA Land Board, chaired by Ketan Shukla, spearheaded the process.

“We faced many challenges getting this land, and we’re delighted we finally have it,” said Shukla.

“Now we move to phase two, transforming it into a world-class cricket facility. When you go with land, partners listen.”

According to CEO Evelyn Kabongerwa Shinyekwa, the search intensified in October 2024, guided by experts led by former national player Richard Okia.

“We evaluated several sites in Nakasajja, Gayaza, Mukono, and Kalagi,” Kabongerwa explained.

“Nakasajja stood out, it’s near the trading centre, has a natural stream for water harvesting, and a landscape perfect for sport.”

Okia confirmed that after assessing seven locations, the Nakasajja site proved the most suitable.

“The terrain, environment, and accessibility made it the ideal choice,” he noted.

The new facility will feature two international-standard ovals, training grounds, administrative offices, and community amenities.

The UCA Land Board will soon announce the groundbreaking and phased development plan.

Cricket Uganda expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the journey.

“Ugandan cricket now has a home. The next era begins,” read a statement from the Association.
