Uganda flags off 1,582 athletes for 2025 FEASSA Games

Uganda has flagged off its team for the 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games, set for August 12–23 in Kakamega, Kenya.

The send-off at the National Council of Sports (NCS) – Copper Chimney was led by NCS General Secretary Dr. Patrick Benard Ogwel.

The delegation includes 1,582 athletes from 66 secondary schools, 11 primary schools, and three Functional Needs Education Schools. They will compete in 124 teams across 22 sports.

This year, chess and scrabble join the official games list, while lacrosse, beach soccer, cricket, and dance sport will feature as demonstration sports.

USSSA CEO Christopher Mugisha Banage praised the team’s diversity, while Dr. Ogwel urged athletes to uphold discipline and strategy.

“We have 66 secondary schools and 11 primary schools, including 3 Special Needs Education Schools (SNES), fielding a total of 124 teams.”

“Uganda will participate in 22 disciplines, with chess and scrabble making their debut, while lacrosse, beach soccer, cricket, and dance sport will feature as demonstration sports.”

Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel, General Secretary of the National Council of Sports, also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sports development, saying;

“The government is prioritizing sports infrastructure to standardize Uganda’s sports. The secret to success is discipline, we must have a clear team strategy. I challenge the team to aim for the highest level of competition.”

Uganda will look to showcase its talent and sportsmanship against the region’s best in Kakamega.
