Uganda officially flagged off its teams for the 2025 African Youth Games on Thursday, 4 December, during a send-off held at Copper Chimney Restaurant in Lugogo.

The Games run from 10–20 December in Luanda, Angola.

Athletes in Athletics, Basketball 3×3, Break Dance, Swimming and Table Tennis will represent the country.

Milton Chebet, Deputy Secretary at the National Council of Sports (NCS), praised the federations for their work and encouraged the athletes to stay disciplined and aim high.

“I want to thank the federations for preparing the teams. To the athletes, remain determined and work for medals,” Chebet said.

Chef de Mission Harriet Aya thanked the Government and the Uganda Olympic Committee for their support and promised a strong performance.

“The teams are ready to gallantly represent the country,” she said.

Among the young stars is 11-year-old table tennis world champion Joseph Francis Ssebatindira, fresh from winning the 2025 Jinja Open. Confident as always, he said:

“I have been training well. I am prepared for the best in Angola.” He previously represented Uganda at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh.
