Following a period of uncertainty about Uganda’s participation in the 2023 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket, it has been official they’ll feature in the continental showpiece.
The Gazelles have been pitted in Group C along with Mali and Senegal, for the event slated for Kigali, Rwanda between July 28th-August 6th.
It wasn’t clear Uganda would make the finals after finishing second in the Zonal V qualifiers held in Kampala earlier this year, but have now been given a greenlight by FIBA.

Meanwhile, Senegal and Mali didn’t need to play the qualifiers after reaching the semi-finals of the 2021 Afrobasket in Cameroon.
Each of the four teams that top their group will directly get to the quarterfinals, while the remaining sides will play in the round of 16.
The Gazelles will be forming part of the Afrobasket for the first time since 2015, but had missed each of the last three editions; in 2017, 2019, and 2021.
