Uganda Hockey Cranes Finish Fourth at Paris 2024 Africa Olympics Qualifiers

Hockey Cranes ended their Paris 2024 Africa Olympics Qualifiers with a fourth place finish following their 7-1 defeat to Ghana on Sunday.

Innocent Raskara‘s team unexpectedly found themselves in the semifinals, but they were pummeled 9-1 by Egypt which outcome set them up against the West African nation for the bronze medal match.

The two faced off on Sunday, and Uganda was once again on the receiving end. Ghana scored four unanswered goals in the first two periods before Colline Batusa salvaging some pride with a 35th minute goal that preceded three more from Ghana.

Batusa, a Weatherhead player in the national league was also the one who scored Uganda’s first goal at this qualifier.

That goal came against Zimbabwe in Uganda’s second game at the event. Batusa is now the highest scoring Ugandan at the Olympics qualifiers with 2 goals.

South Africa who beat Uganda 11-0 in their final Pool B game emerged champions after beating Egypt 2-1 in the finals.
