The National Hockey League returns on Saturday with match day seventeen after a month’s break that had the Independence Cup and the Paris 2024 Africa Olympics Qualifiers take place.
The league was last played on 1st October, but it makes its return this weekend with a blockbuster fixture involving Weatherhead and Wananchi.
The two sides are currently separated by just goal difference both having recorded 40 points.
Weatherhead however, sit top of the table due to a superior goal difference.
These two sides have been nip and tuck as none has lost a game this season. They have each won 13 of their 14 games, but Weatherhead have been slightly better in terms of goals.
Weatherhead have scored 111 goals, that’s six more than Wananchi and have conceded only ten, that’s four fewer than Wananchi.
Weatherhead will hope the stance doesn’t change on Sunday when they return to action. They will look to maintain their position in the league.
Colline Batusa finished as Uganda’s top scorer at the Olympics Qualifiers with two goals. He will be looking to continue with his scoring.
Batusa is currently third in the scoring charts with 21 goals, however, his teammate Thomas Opio leads the charts with 32. Wananchi’s Jordan Achaye is second with 29.
KHC Originals will open match day 17 against City Lions on Saturday, before Makerere and KHC Stallions take on Rockets and Weatherhead Titans respectively on the same day.
The other Sunday game will see Thunders face Badgers.
